The two-part tele-movie is being produced by the UK's Power and Canada's Prodigy Pictures. It will air in England later this year.
Scripted by Patrick Harbinson, and based on the novel by John Wyndham, the story centers around the search for an alternative fuel supply, leading to the ominous Triffid, a crop cultivated for its fuel that seems to have a life of its own. When spectators gather worldwide for a much-anticipated solar storm, billions are left blinded and the few sighted survivors watch as society collapses into chaos. The Triffids find their way out of captivity, free to roam the planet with a fatal sting.
"The Day Of The Triffids" was adapted by BBC Radio in 1953, 1957 and 1968. A BBC television production followed in 1981.
