I wouldn't be upset if they replaced Taylor. he's cute and all, but I just can't see him as the Jake in New Moon.

It goes without saying that Taylor Lautner MUST be Jacob! Where is Stephanie Meyer in all this? She needs to protect the integrity of her creation. Catherine Hardwicke is the perfect director for this: nothing in the book compares to the moment Bella enters Bio class in the film... Edward -- repulsed -- winged like an angel (flanked by a stuffed owl), Bella -- self-conscious -- her hair billows against the fan. The danger of sexuality, the grace of Desire. Beautiful. I dreamed that Hardwicke would continue to work through the ideas she introduces. It was like My So-Called Life with Godfather ambitions. In that tradition, I had hopes Part II would be better. Only one person could have gotten those performances from those actors (while d.p. Elliot Davis got the perfect look). This is a real shame. Oh well, here's praying Kathryn Bigelow or Sturla Gunnarsson or Neil Jordan or Patrice Chereau (!!!omg!1) will be hired to take over "New Moon". But something tells me they're not looking for artists (Chris Weitz?????? YUCK!!). Anyone who directs "New Moon" should do screenings of "The Story of Adele H.", "Godfather Part II" & "III", and "The Company of Wolves" for inspiration and instruction.

i wait until they choose the new director.

If they didn't like Taylor in the first place then WHY did they cast him to begin with?? And not someone like Steven Strait?? I think that Lautner did a good job as Jacob and i think it would be fine for him to stay on board. If they are going to replace anyone they should replace Kristen Stewart! She was an awful Bella, i don't think she's a good actress at all!

^-^ oh my gosh i can't believe they might take taylor out >.< well i see what they mean about hime not looking like he's twenty some years but in that case they should get steven strait to play the part of the older jake ^-^

I agree, they knew this could potentially turn into a trilogy, at best when they signed on. To not factor in the transformations Jacob goes through into the initial casting is just amateur. We as fans get used to the actors they select and become loyal to them. Granted, Kristen was not my favorite and in fact was the worst performance from the bunch, she looks like Bella (with the help of really good contacts) and hopefully with more practice and a acting coach who will help her find her sensitive playful side and stop being so darn serious (you are only 18 once, enjoy this! )she can improve. Poor Taylor did not have a chance from the start! Unless, by some miracle he goes a foot and ages almost 10 years!

that stinks we have to wait that long till new moon but its worth it
Posted by: Alex.h on December 10, 2008 at 22:31:10
It really sucks we have to wait that long till New Moon comes out but it is worth it and if they dont like Taylor then why did they pick him in the first place I mean come on.
Posted by: Liz on December 11, 2008 at 01:25:17
They should keep him i mean come on, they wouldn't recast Bella or Edward so why recast Jacob. And taylor has said he looks forward to doing new moon so its mean to have it so close then pull it away.

i think taylor was good as the young jacob, but not for the older, mature jacob. I think steven strait would be great! i just hope with all this focus on rushing the movie they don't skip on maintaining the integrity of the books, and the relationships! i hope stephanie meyers is on board with this to keep everyone on check! they better only make it better and not worst! if they just try to pump out a teenage flick it'll ruin the books! it's not a tween book! it's actually a very mature book!

...steven strait could play the role of jacob well...he's really hot...and he's body is nice...very appropriate for the book's description of jacob...taylor is a little short...and he doesn't look like he's twenty or older...but if they like taylor then we can't do anything about that...all i can say is...the twilight movie was great; freakishly amazing...and i am looking forward to watching the rest of the sequels...i love EDWARD CULLEN...

Why is everyone so shocked and dismayed at recasting Jacob? I like Lautner. He did a fine job. It's not his fault Jacob goes through a significant transformation/growth and aging spurt in the book. That's just the character. From the start they were going to have to recast for the rest of the films. Strait's a good choice though maybe a tad too old at this point. What everyone should really be angry about is the way Summit is handling their new "cash cow." They're rushing a sequel, giving it another anemic budget (50 million is going to cover increased salaries, location shoots, AND respectable special effects?! Give us a break...) Who are they kidding? Summit is looking to do another grindhouse job, cash in and move on. On a positvie note, I think Weitz is an inspired choice. I respect the argument that it needs a female director. But Weitz has a writer's sensibility, experience with creating a fantasy world, and experience in depicting real relationships in unreal or exagerated circumstances. I'd recast Jacob, hire Weitz, bump the budget to the 65-75 range (New Moon will be good for at least 100 million domestically even with all the bad reviews and fan push-back on the first one), do the location shoots in eastern Europe where you get the look of Italy with a significant savings. Then take the extra cash and do three things: 1) Hire Stephanie to polish the script with extra story to explain what Edward is doing and feeling while he's away from Bella. I think this would work if Stephanie had her input on the new material and would get fan buy-in. And frankly, the series needs it. The movie didn't pull off the idea the book did which is that Edward and Bella are really meant to be together as opposed to some melodramatic teen crush. Let Pattinson with his 8 million dollar pay raise whine about the extra work to someone who cares. 2) The rest of the cash goes to special F/X which were sorely lacking in Twilight. 3) Finally, I'd invest in experienced actors for the new characters like Sam, Aro, etc. I'll just go ahead and send my resume over to Summit now. J/K

DON'T REPLACE TAYLOR!!!! i thought he did a good job in the 1st movie. HELLO!! he's the PERFECT sunshine for Bella in the next movie!!! KEEP HIM!!! good grief, don't mess up this incredible saga, summit.
Posted by: Katie on December 11, 2008 at 12:50:01
Why the hell would yall change him now?! He is such a great actor in the first one and he doesnt need to be fully Native American he already looks the part. Why does it matter wheither he is full or not u guys were gonna use a white guy for the job. SO WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Deonic on December 11, 2008 at 14:08:47
Replace him? Why? Because he isn't bulked up enough? That's ridiculous. From makeup to CGI effects, they can easily accomplish that job without having to replace him. I thought that, even with his small role in the first film, he did an excellent job as a representation of Jacob. The actress who played Bella, however, was dry and either needs to step it up for the next film or step aside and be replaced.
And the same director who directed The Golden Compass? No, thank you. In my opinion, his directing style was very rushed, his transition style from scene to scene was choppy, and not enough detail was given to individual scenes.

John Demetry is beyond stupid for writing that. Go hug a tree, fruitcake.

- i agree! They have already cast him as jacob they shouldn't take it away. Millions of fangirls all over the world will be turned away from the movie of they change Jacob! Taylor may not look the part but have they never heard of special effects! Taylor plays jacob really well i think they should keep him

My wife is a huge fan of this(as am I) and called that Taylor wasn't right for the part. I have to say I thought he did fine(not great but fine) but I agree w/ her point that when it comes to Edward & Jacob competing over Bella & her being conflicted between the two I can't see it being believable that she would have a hard time choosing between Rob Pattinson & Tyler Lautner, granted I'd like to see him in Wolf form to see how he pulls that off but my wife was a more harsh critic & it appears she was right. Nov 20th we'll be there for New Moon though, not even a year away still a long way but not as long as I thought. Sweet!
Posted by: amitiel on December 11, 2008 at 16:13:03
Everyone keeps suggesting special effects and make-up are the answer to keeping Lautner. I'm sorry, but did you SEE Summit's idea of special effects and make-up? And at the reported budget of 50 mil, do you think their idea is going to get THAT much better by November 20th?! One critic hit it dead on when they said it looked like someone had thrown flour in Peter Facinelli's face just before he walked into frame. Lautner seems like a nice young man with some real talent who just got cast for a specific character at a specific point in the character's life.

I found the film to be good, very good for it's budge. I think it'd be best if New Moon continued with the same director. As for the Jacob thing, I am not entirely happy with the casting choice. The novel, New Moon, had been out for a couple of years when Twilight casting was done, the casting directors should have been more demanding of actors...maybe choosing an actor who is able to pull off the "baby-face"..but when physically trained, could turn out to look like a 25 year old man...I think it'd be a good idea to re-cast Lautner. He was good for Twilight, but I think a new actor's in order.

I am so glad they are replacing C Hardwicke, Twilight was a train wreck. I have seen Kristen and Robert in other movies that showed their real acting skills, they were appalling in this movie, the direction and the editing were deficient. As for Stephanie M she was quoted as saying that she saw this as a movie while she was writing the stories, well who the hell did she see palying Jake at a 6'8 inches?? Pray tell, please!! Unrealistic!! so they should keep Taylor! he's a good little actor.
Posted by: Chelle on December 14, 2008 at 21:02:01
Well, if you're going to re-cast Taylor Lautner, you might as well re-cast Kristen as well. At least with Kristen you would have legitimately reason. She's just not the right casting for Bella. Replacing C.H. was very smart. But not increasing the budget for what is needed for New Moon could be disasterous and that alone may make the point of doing any of the above a mute point.

Lautner did a great job as Jacob in Twilight. But he is not ready for the role in New Moon. We need someome who can compete with Pattison. That is hard to do and Lautner just does not cut it. And Really give us a new Bella. Stewart Stinks - She could have at least tried to act like she was in love. It cant be that hard... look at Pattinson. If I had not read the books I would not have known that she was supposed to be madly in love with him. Her little outburst just made me want to laugh. The hospital scene. Was she throwing a tantrum like a 2 year old. I thought she was supposed to be like heartbroken at the thought of leaving him. Maybe we just need a new screenwriter. I have seen other stuff and she did a good job but this movie was lacking a lot. Like the whole overpowering love that is the story. I will still love it becaue it is Twilight but Please make New Moon better.
