Resident Evil: Extinction Devours DVD Competition

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's Resident Evil: Extinction and Lionsgate's War topped the national DVD sales and rental charts, respectively, for the week ending Jan. 6.
"Resident Evil" came out on top on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, riding on its $50.7 million theatrical record. "War" came in at No. 2 but topped Home Media Magazine's video rental chart with estimated rental earnings of $11.8 million, or more than half its $22.5 million boxoffice take.
"Resident Evil" generated an estimated $8.3 million in rental stores for a fifth-place bow.
