Zombie Talks About Why He's Doing H2
Source:FearNET
December 22, 2008

FearNET correspondent Spider, frontman of Powerman 5000, has an advantage when it comes to getting the dirt regarding H2 where other journalists don't: He's the writer-director's brother. And so, he, and FearNET, put that blood bond to good use to get Rob Zombie to talk a bit about his sequel to Halloween.

Here, Zombie explains why he decided to leap back into the franchise: "For some reason Halloween was one of those shoots that was stressful and crazed from day one. Everything was a struggle and a problem. So, when it was done I was ready to be done. Then time goes by, you regenerate, forget and the idea of a sequel seems okay. But by that point I thought someone else was already doing it. So I just forgot about it. Then I ran into Matt Stein from Weinstein Company at the Scream Awards and found out that it was still up for grabs. So I grabbed it. I love my version of the characters and can't wait to take them further. This sequel will be different than the first film, much like The Devil's Rejects was different from House of 1000 Corpses."

He goes on to repeat that Tyler Mane is returning as Myers (announced last week) and that he's spoken to Malcolm McDowell and Scout Taylor-Compton about their respective roles. Shooting begins on March 9th. For the full interview click here.

Good enough for me. Go Rob, give us something cool!

Posted by: RJ Scriber on December 22, 2008 at 17:08:20

Hmmmm... to think I'd open this link and see a giant $ sign.

I may be alone here, but didn't Myers get shot in the face in the end of the first film? And, didn't McDowell's head get squeezed like a grape? What exactly is Zombie planning? Another re-imagining of HIS first film?

Posted by: Ryan on December 22, 2008 at 17:19:05

lol I agree with you "RJ Scriber" but who knows zombie may have something cool up his sleeve for the next one.

Posted by: RJ Scriber on December 22, 2008 at 17:26:22

Ryan - I don't mean to sound like a nay-sayer, but I'm not sure how many Halloween films they can make that'll make me excited to go see them, ya know? But, since Zombie did make The Devil's Rejects, I'll give it a shot.

Can't wait.

It's Zombie's directorial past that gives me hope for his cinema future....The Devil's Rejects rattled me, and most people who saw it. It came out of left field with it's tone and bared little resemblance to it's prior installment. R. Zombie is a man I can believe will make a better movie if he is making another round at the material.

I think anyone who was a fan of the old Halloween movies will be able to accept that Michael and Loomis didn't die at the end of the first one. Hell, we were supposed to believe they both died at the end of Halloween 2, but we got three more movies out of Loomis and five more from Michael, so we can't count them out just yet.

I knew Rob couldnt stay away for long! cant wait to see what he has in store for H2. It will also be great to see him work with McDowell and Scout Taylor Compton.

Posted by: Tyler on December 22, 2008 at 20:26:27

for people who say "wasn't he shot in the face". yeah he was, but he is michale ****ing myers, you can't kill him. this movie sounds good enough for me

Posted by: Jack Burton on December 22, 2008 at 20:41:38

I'd think it be cool if Loomis came back wearing an eye patch. That would be bad ass.

"This sequel will be different than the first film, much like The Devil's Rejects was different from House of 1000 Corpses..."

Ding, ding, ding! Sounds like a winner to me. Since DR was vastly superior to House so, I'm looking forward to where this may go. Or where it may not go.

Still not too keen on Scout and Malcolm returning, but I'm there anyway.

Rob Zombie sucks ass and destroyed the best horror movie EVER made!

Posted by: Devbinks on December 22, 2008 at 22:00:12

I thought his version of Halloween was okay. Would have been better he they toned down on the sex/nudity and cussing but I'm still looking forward to this sequel.

look the reason that mannny people didnt like the first one was cause it was dark and disturbing even for a child. But let be real i m not shame in mentioned as one of my top ten of last year. But Rob version was the best that he done, cause he knows the art on creating a monster. If you are so consrvative in studying the psychology of a criminal, then yer ***** in doing so. This is a fine and dark work that this man have done, is the style that the 60's n 70's did.
bring on the king of slashers Rob.
Bring it on.

Posted by: Robert on December 23, 2008 at 00:39:35

While the original Halloween was a great movie, the best horror movie of all time? I'm not quite sure. Most certainly the best SLASHER of all time though. I understood why people didn't like the concept of remaking the classic. Some things should just be left alone and the original Halloween is classic enough, and good enough, it didn't really need a remake. But it got one...

And personally, I don't think it was that bad. I think the theatrical version was a much better homage to the original than the D.C. with the "rape" scene and all, but it was still very good. Rob Zombie did a great job at keeping the heart of the source material, the darkness, the quick jumps, the screams and upped the blood just enough...the vulgarity was unnecessary and the backstory was a bit too long, but overall, one of the better remakes that comes to mind...

That said, I cannot wait to see Michael Myers back on the big screen again! Rob Zombie and the stars coming back is a good move, it gives me faith that continuity will be good. I have faith in this project until proven wrong...just my two cents, thanks.

well, if it will different, i could be in!!!

Posted by: Vic Mackeys' carpool buddy on December 23, 2008 at 07:43:51

Why do people give this man money to direct movies? He is a complete hack of a director. He could not direct a car out of his drive-way. The Devils Rejects makes me laugh but not for the right reasons. The best new we could get for this project is that an on-set explosion wipes out all involved.

Posted by: Dr. Doc on December 23, 2008 at 11:12:43

first off, Vic Mackeys' carpool buddy, thats a great name

i thought House of 1000 Corpses was awesome, Devils Rejects not so much and Halloween was complete sh--

i was hoping for more original stuff from Zombie

i would rather see T-Rex than this

anybody ever read any of Zombies comic work? i was surprised at how BORING it was, i had to take a nap after every issue!

Posted by: RJ Scriber on December 23, 2008 at 11:42:30

Tyler - It wasn't that he was shot point blank in the face (and not to mention past movies featuring demons and other scarier monsters all die when getting shot point blank in the face), it's the fact that Zombie said he was only going to do one film, and the way the first ended, it seemed to prove that point. To me he dug himself in a hole, and part two better be ****ing epic. Or at least original. And, for me, the reason why I didn't love part 1, and why I don't even consider it part of the Halloween franchise, was Rob humanized Myers. I mean, we all knew Myers was a psychotic human, but the less we knew about him, the better. Everything said about him in the originals about the killings, were basically stories and myths to hype up the man himself, and make yourself hope to God you don't run into him. After watching the new film where they have Mane playing Myers, Zombie went for the tall, opposing, giant-esque Myers... and I feel that since he did tell the back story, and made him human, he needed something else to make Myers look scary, and that was a man who was 6'10". Complete lack of imagination. That's my two cents. To me, smaller villains, or at least average height villains are more scary, unless you're dealing with Godzilla. In the original, Myers was what, 6'3" or so? Well I'm 6'2", and if I had to meet someone face to face, same build and height, but yet he was a helluva lot stronger, it'd be freakier. When you're facing someone who is 6'10", really, what chance does a hero the size of Scout really have? And I really don't mean to go on and on, but "Come on it's ****ing Michael Myers" isn't good enough reason to me.

I agree with RJ Scriber. I had such high hopes for this remake, but then I saw it. I HATED the remake. Now say what you want about Zombie's work as a musician, as I like his music. However, his movies are all the same. I hated 1000 Corpses, liked Rejects, but then hated this Halloween. He casts the same people, everyone has long hair, and he plays Skynard in the background. End plot. Now Michael Myers is supposed to be an unstoppable killing machine and you're NOT supposed to know why. what was great about the character was that he just snapped and lost it that one halloween night. In the new one, he gets bullied, has a dysfunctional family, and kills animals. Like.. seriously. I'll never forget that slow motion shot of him running, crying, down a hall in his long hair (of course) looking like a girl. That's not Michael Myers. Then.. when he gets older, he's not supposed to be 6'10. He's supposed to be like 6'1. THAT's why it's so crazy that he can lift people up and manhandle them. If he's 6'10.. well he's just as strong as he should be. It was just god awful. And Laurie Strode.. you felt sympathy for her in the original. In this one, she's just annoying as ****. They all are. Loomis is even annoying, just a guy trying to cash in on Myers.

Leave this dead in the water and just move on. But they won't. Instead, "H2" will come and it will be garbage.

long story short

$$$$$...and lots of it

Posted by: cody on December 23, 2008 at 20:44:01

I'm looking forward to it.I Liked the Remake.

Posted by: Frank on December 23, 2008 at 22:05:02

I saw all like Halloween movies, even Halloween 3, I like Halloween 2007 Movie the best because it had a good story of how Michael Myers became bad and the ending of him getting shot in the face. I that that ending better than the first Halloween Movie. I don't want nothing to do with Halloween 2.
