Friday the 13th Kills the Competition
February 15, 2009

Those who voted on our homepage online poll last week were right. Friday the 13th did indeed gross more than $30 million in its opening weekend. The Platinum Dunes reboot grossed an estimated $42 million during its three-day debut landing at number one at the box office.

In comparison to the other slasher remakes, it certainly fared better than last month's My Bloody Valentine 3D which opened at $21 million and officially hit the $50 million mark this weekend. And it slaughtered the $26 million debut of Rob Zombie's Halloween.

Analysts say Friday the 13th stands to hit the $50 million mark with the President's Day holiday arriving tomorrow.

Movie rocked! Bring on the sequel, and bring back Mears, Jared and Nispel!!!

Hope you're happy now, Platinum Dunes is going to feed us REMAKES till the end of times. I can´t even list how ****ty this lame ass movie was. 0 tension, not scary at all & boring murders, total FAIL.

Posted by: mikey on February 15, 2009 at 14:17:12

the characters could have fought back more.

Great movie. =]

Movie was good. Loved how "Trent - The Richboy *******" was "Trent - The Richboy *******" from Transformers. Michael Bay must love this kid. Probably because he looks and acts like him.

NIce amount of **** in the movie. Although in completely unrealistic scenarios. Didn't like that, but I guess I can't complain.

I also felt like the kills were a bit lame. I didn't like how they weren't gory as hell. That's one thing MBV has up on this film. They kills weren't gory enough.

And the ending was stupid. THey just did that to keep the original water scare ending. But it didn't make sense in this "realistic" version.

They should have just left him hanging on the chain.

But overall, I liked it and I can't wait for the sequel.

I had a free pass for the film from the 'His Name is Jason' DVD. I liked it OK. To be honest, I liked My Bloody Valentine 3-D better. For one thing, the 3-D FX rocked! In spite of a 'no-name' villain, the story was more interesting to me also, & a nice twist at the end with Jensen Ackles turning out to be the REAL killer in the present, & Ackles rocked too!

We all know that Jared Padelecki is from Supernatural just like Jensen Ackles, but Padelecki was the best actor in the Friday reboot, bar none. ANY of the rest could've been EASILY replaced. He was probably what made the film.

Like I said, I liked it OK, but somehow it seemed to be lacking something, especially compared to the 1st 3 films. Another problem may be that MUCH of the film was in the DARK, which of course SOME of it should be, but not the BULK of it.

I hate to say how to rate THIS Jason yet. One thing about the ORIGINAL films is how they 'fleshed out' his backstory more. Here it's like they just 'cut to the chase'.

Good to hear that about another successful F13 film, for that means we can look forward to 13 more Jason films on the way....

It wasn't quite as good as I thought it would be but i still liked it just fine. I think what I liked the best is that it had more of a "Texas Chainsaw" feel than a campy Friday the 13th movie. Looking forward to another one. Also Derek was great as Jason.

A sequel is a given at this point. Bring back Mears as Jason, no more Nispel in this genre EVER AGAIN, and get a good storyline already. The remake blew.

Thanks a ton, hotzodpockets - guess I don't have to see My Bloody Valentine now since you decided to broadcast the ****ing ending.

Horror is now doomed. Bring on the crappy frat horror flicks

"Thanks a ton, hotzodpockets - guess I don't have to see My Bloody Valentine now since you decided to broadcast the ****ing ending."

You're welcome, apologist.

Oh, I guess I should've said SPOILERS first. Duh, my bad. :)

at first i had no desire whatsoever to see this flick, and the critics reviews certainly didnt help any

but after hearing how much fun everbody is having seeing this flick i REALLY wanna check it out, the fanboy websites seem to really like it. hopefully i can talk some of my buddies into checking it out, they were skeptical as well

im not a huge fan of the original flicks (i grew up as more of a "Halloween" kid and in my opinion that remake BLEW! wtf happened Zombie?!)but im really tempted to check this out

the thing is, you cant walk into this flick expecting to see the next "Citizen Kane", you just gotta take it for what it is

and as for the box office and the slew of remakes that are sure to follow, that sounds good to me so long as it marks the END OF TORTURE PORN!!! enough of that crap already!!!

id rather see 50 lackluster F13th and Halloween than anymore of that garbage. fu-- the saw franchise!!! lets see the return of true horror!!!

I was severely disappointed in this movie. In the sense of it being a pastichey-homage to the format, it succeeds, but unfortunately it doesn't offer anything new or inventive. Some of the humor actually works really well, and there was one little surprise that i thought was actually well-done, if unclear. I thought the death scenes were well-executed, but very tame by the series' standards, and the characters made no reasonable attempt at self defense or escape. I did however like that they made Jason more of a physically active killer, rather than some lurching oaf. All in all, the flaws outweighed the good for me, and I don't reccomend 'Friday the 13th'.

and it deserves all of those $!

That is the best "Friday" movie I have ever seen!!!!!!

Posted by: Mr. Jack Bauer on February 15, 2009 at 17:19:18

I would like to see a sequel. Bring back Padalecki, and Nispel. The ending of the movie should be like a dream sequence, to keep it like the first movie. Then start off from there. Bring in a better plot, and who cares if it is unrealistic, give the same feel as the originals. Also give the characters a little more plot. I would like to see more of the character Clay, and know more about his backstory.

LONG LIVE JASON HES BETTTER THEN FREDDY MICHAEL LEATHERFACE CHUCKY AND PINHEAD COMBINED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS MOVIE BLOW'S and BLOW'S HARD,I am no longer a Friday fan,oh and F#$K YOU Mr.Bay!.

Posted by: Jack Burton on February 15, 2009 at 18:32:40

I'm actually rooting for a sequel. The remake was not perfect. (** 1/2) The first 45 minutes were pretty bad with the filmmakers clumisly Jason's origin story. (He just finds the mask in an attic?!?!) But once Jason donned the mask and started slaughtering teens, the movie dropped the whole "Reboot" mentality and was damn good times. If the next sequel can keep that kinda momentum throughout, it will rock.

Posted by: McLovin on February 15, 2009 at 18:46:03

Meh, I had fun with it. I think seeing Derek Mears as Jason really made this movie - hope he returns for "pt.II"!

LMAO.....

"Slaughtered Rob Zombie's Halloween debut"

rightfully so.... rightfully so..... ***urinates in the faces of Rob Zombie fans***

Well i will say this, this movie was amazing. this was a more modern version of jason. Yes it wasn't gory, but come on, hell when they killed the mother in the 1st one the head went to wrong way. I loved the orignals and i loved this one. As for more fighting...these characters fought back more then the orignal did, a lot more. Almost every male character fought back, along with about 3 females. and how was the first 45 minutes boring, the first half had basically all the killing...And him finding his mask in the attic was more epic then the original. They didn't want to make jason have an orgasm while he picked up the mask, but it you look at it the way he finds it was amazing, and funny...great movie, it actually stays with the orignals, which it would have anyways, and Derek Mears played jason like he has been jason through all the movies. oh and for the person who said the end made no sense, why not?? It made perfect sense. Jason can not die and heals at an uncharted rate, and the end just showed this, but i do like wat the one person said, it could be a dream sequence like the 3rd one..Bring on the sequel..

Posted by: Fabricio on February 15, 2009 at 19:20:36

WELL... i think it was a fun flick, im a huge horror fan... more into HALLOWEEN movies, but Jason's comeback was a little relief, having so many bad horror movies last year...

i would rate FRIDAY THE 13th (C) no more... no less...

the thing is... the deaths were not inventive at all... they were boring... not cool... lack of blood... i didnt care for any of the characters... they were fast and stupid...

MY BLOODY VALENTINE was much scarier and better...

not just cuz of the 3D fx, but for the suspense, the gore, new deaths, and somehow i kinda cared for the characters just a bit than i did with Friday the 13th's
