Hansen Returned to His Roots for Massacre

The dangers of shooting at sea were the least of Gunnar Hansen's worries when he got involved in Julius Kemp's Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre.
"I had to speak Icelandic in the film and I haven't done that in a while," he told ShockTillYouDrop.com on the red carpet of Universal Studios Hollywood's Eyegore Awards. "I asked [Kemp] how I sounded and he said, You sound like you haven't spoken that in a long time. So, a week before filming I worked on my accent."
Hansen who was born in Reykjavik, Iceland before he moved to the States at a young age, stars in Kemp's film as the captain of a whale watching vessel. "The premise is a group of tourist go on a whale watching boat," he explains, "they can't fine any whales. My character calls on the radio to see if there are any ships that have seen any whales and the answer comes from a boat that's a mothball whale watching ship where a family is living. There's an accident and these guys from the other ship come over to help these people, but they take them over to their ship and things go awry."
The actor confirms that he, in fact, is not responsible for the film's title massacre.
As for lensing on the ocean, Hansen tells us, for him, it was a half-and-half situation. Some shooting occurred while docked, some took place at sea during inclement conditions. "We were on a 250-foot Coast Guard cutter and an 80-foot vessel that served as my ship, he says. "One night the weather was horrendous. Luckily, I didn't have any shooting on board the big ship because the wind was howling and everybody was getting battered on deck. I stayed in the cabin's room. At three in the morning we had to climb down the steel ladder over the service boat to film my scene and the director said, It's a little nasty let's wait until tomorrow."
