Update: Watchmen's Rorschach is Krueger?
Source:Latino Review
February 12, 2009

Update: Producer Brad Fuller called in to tell us, "I can absolutely deny [this rumor]. We have not chosen a Freddy Krueger we're not even negotiating with anyone yet."

With a director in the bag, the producers of A Nightmare on Elm Street are now turning their attention to filling Freddy Krueger's shoes. According to Latino Review's tipster, the front runner right now is actor Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children).

I've been stating here on Shock that Haley would be my ideal choice since Robert Englund is not returning to reprise the role. And there have been plenty of other great suggestions bandied about on various message boards. Besides being a terrific actor, he's just got "that look." (No offense, Mr. Haley.)

He'll be seen at Rorschach next month in Watchmen and is co-starring in Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island.

Perfect choice.

First off, is this guy game for 4 or 5 movies? Cause thats what were looking at here, secondly, Englund is out because they dont want him, and its a shame. He isnt terribly young, but good to go for a movie or two if they got these going in the next four years, Englund said he wasnt interested in doing it, but he was obviously paid to say it. Lets see, play the best character of his life for another go, one in which he has done eight times to date, or do another junky sci-fi movie? Ya, he was paid to say it.

Cool.

I really think Jackie Earle Hayley would be a good choice. Him or Gary Oldman (a highly unlikely choice). Haha, I read a post made by someone a while back who said they would like Crispin Glover in the role. Interesting. Never would of thought that.

You got some spelling errors up there, styd

Wrong Festy.

Englund mentioned how tough it had gotten for him to play the role when they were filming Freddy vs Jason. He admitted age and recovery time had become factors in his choice of future roles.

As much as I would like to see him continue as Freddy, he really doesn't want it anymore. I've said before though that he should still stay connected with the new installments. I'd like to see him in a possible cameo as maybe Freddy's father in a flashback or something.

I heard a rumor long ago that Billy Bob Thornton was being kicked around as the new Freddy. Can anyone imagine how that would be?

Interesting front-runner choice, none-the-less.

I can def see him portraying krueger.

Why would somebody pay Englund to say that? That's the most ridiculous thing I've read on the internet for a long while.

Posted by: Fredfan on February 13, 2009 at 00:21:55

Jackie Earle Haley is an awesome actor and I'm a huge fan. Check out LOSIN' IT. But, they need an unknown for this.

I agree with Fredfan. An unknown actor who hasn't really been seen in many films, could and might be, the best direction to go for the refreshing of an already historic film series. True, most of whom were mentioned would do a great job, in their own way and form, but I think it would be best to go with an unknown.

As far as Englund being paid to say that, I honestly don't believe it, but stranger things have happened.

Of course, him staying around to play the role of Freddy's father or something as a cameo is a really good idea. But, in my opinion, what would be better, would be for him to be a part of the filming of the movie, off camera. I think it would be very interesting if he were to coach the unknown actor, or whomever they cast for the role, that way said actor would be able to play the role better and toward fanatic's standards.

Because, we all have to be honest here, if we the fans think that it stinks, then it will never make much money at all, or even see the light of day.

Good luck to whomever is cast as the role of Freddy Kruger.

Let's hope they can live up to what's already been done.

I think Robert Knepper would make a good Freddy. T-Bag from Prison Break...

But to tell you the truth this guy looks like he could fit the bill too.

Yeah, I guess Jackie could make a good Freddy Krueger. Or Robert Knepper. Doesn't matter which one gets the role or a newbie.

Lbeezle, I'd heard that BBT was a choice. I'm not so thrilled with that idea. I don't think I could get past him being BBT, but then again that seems to be the way the Hollywood machine seems to go nowadays. Most of the big actors are just "Big Name Actor playing Big Name Actor playing This Character" & the highers up love it b/c it brings in cash.

Fredfan, I agree. I think that a no-name actor would be best. That way it'd be fresh & we wouldn't have any preconcieved notions attatched to them. Well, that & it would be a good way to give some of those talented starving actors a break.

This guy would be good. He was creepy as hell in Little Children.

If I had my pick though, i would cast Ben Foster. Look at his work in Alpha Dog (the movie isn't great, but he is good in it), and his work in 30 Days of Night. The only problem is that he's a little young for the role, but he'll be covered in make up anyways right?

Posted by: jonny on February 13, 2009 at 09:27:15

old t-bag himself would be perfect as the new freddy with prison break coming to an end robert knepper could break out of his crappy movie roles hence transporter 3 the god awful hitman and find redemption

Liam Neeson. Perfect Choice.

Haley is great choice for Freddy. regarding the movie, i would love to see a prequel film. Showing us how and why he became the beast he was. There were rumours that they were going to do that...............
