Wow, Hollyweird sure it working quick nowadays, huh? The freaking film hasn't even reached US soil yet, and they're already doing a remake. That to me, isn't even a remake, more of a "**** you. We can do it better!" But, ****, at least Hammer Films is coming back.

Sweet zombie Jesus! Are American's that ignorant? Can we not handle subtitles or even dubbing for that matter? Don't answer that, I know the answer and it depresses me.

Same thing has happened with "[REC]" here as well (i.e. next month's "Quarantine"), RJ.

This adaptation simply will not fly, the odd pubescent romance of the original will surely be destroyed. The kids will probably be made older and as a result the impact will be dimminished tenfold.

Funny you should say that, Sean.
There was one other production entity I know that was trying to bag the rights. When I asked them, what they would do to it, if they had gotten the story, they told me, "Well, we'd make the kids older."
I really hope they don't.

Here it comes, the next growing trend...we've run out of old titles with "built in audiences" so lets just make American vesions of new foreign horror. If we're quiet enough, people will think they are new ideas instead of remakes of old films!! For the love of god why don't distributors just do a foreign deal and do a US theatre run of the original film in its original language. Save the production costs, just pay for the rights and theateres, and stop making awesome new movies worse for no reason.

this pisses me off. the original film was AMAZING, i saw it at the Tribeca Film Festival... why must we put our stamp on everything?!?!
and if the kids are older... isn't that basically "Twilight?" UGH

J.Warner - yes, I know about [REC], it's absolutely right. The sad thing, I had only heard about [REC] only a month before I watched the first trailer for Quarantine. I mean is originality really dead? And, I know the answer... but this is a prime reason why I barely ever go to horror films in the theatres anymore. While the US version is doing the theatrical run, the original and better foreign film gets skipped and is now sitting in my DVD collection. So whats the point? Todays horror is just a bunch of remakes and ghost movies... better yet, remade ghost movies. My confidence is slowly fading.

Oh. My. Christ. What in the blue **** is wrong with hollywood? Can't people just accept that other countries can create good films? What's next? Zombie as done by Michael Bay? **** that.

The essential problem with this remake isn't that the USA is inherently xenophobic and resistant to learnig a another language (which I find upsetting and am trying to remedy) but that we are so sexually repressed that we are raised to forget the early sexual desires we had, as if they were somehow dirty.
This country views youth as being some precious thing that needs constant coddling instead of viewing youth as a state of growth, change, confusion and amazing resiliance.
This film has a very sweet amd very real level of sexual subtlety to it which will of course invite a great deal of hatred from the NoeCon Religious Right folks who love to spout off on anything that might somehow turn them on.
