They're pretty relentless when comes to crapping out these remakes!! Why can't they give it a break?....Some god damn originality wouldn't hurt!!

MICHAEL BAY - THIS IS GOD. STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING. THIS IS YOUR LAST CHANCE.

I THINK THATS A GREAT IDEA ONLY IF IT"S DONE TO BE BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL, TAKE HEE AT THE PAST REMAKES LOOK AT THE MESS THEY MADE OF THE STEPFORD WIVES, BEWITCHED, MIAMI VICE, SOME THINGS SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE IF IT CAN"T BE BETTER.

I agree with HIM. Make Michael Bay stop!

Platinum Dunes will probably try to make this film if they have their way. Luckily, there's the idea that this remake just might get cancelled!!!!!!!!!!!

So long as the people keep going to see these terrible remakes, the studios will keep funding them. If you want it to stop, take action and ignore them!!

Excellent idea, MonsterInMyCloset!

The only way for the remakes to stop is some group in Hollywood goes on another strike. But with most remakes all they do is up the blood, body counts, and graphic elements.

wait....i dont see what michael bay has anything to do with this??? and they should walk away from this..it would probably turn out horrible just like halloween did.

The ONLY time to "remake" a film is when something in the original was lacking. Carpenter's remake of The Thing was done to be closer to the source material and to push the envelope with visual effects. The upcoming Hellraiser remake is being done now because the budget and visual effects available can better serve the story that was originally conceived. The original film version of Rosemary's Baby is almost a word-for-word retelling of the book, and there's no need for more or better visual effects. This movie DOES NOT need to be remade! Michael Bay, pull your head out of your ass and move on to something NEW!

We should touch base.

ALL REMAKES ARE HORRIBLE!!!!!
Posted by: Aaron J on March 4, 2008 at 14:30:20
I don't know if you can say ALL remakes are horrible. Some of them are good some of them are bad. It is a trend to say that they will be terrible, but as others have pointed out, those same people who are angry and frustrated are the ones going to see these movies. That being said, I think Battlestar Galactica (although this is television) is a great reminder that remakes can make something infinitely better.
Posted by: Aaron J on March 4, 2008 at 14:32:14
Oh also, wouldn't the "remake" of a book be an adaptation? Couldn't hardcore fanatics claim that the book was better than the movie? If we followed this kind of logic then things like There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men would never be made.

2001, the Godfather, Dr. Strangelove...
some movies just don't need to be remade...
the Wizard of Oz, Bladerunner, Raging Bull, Apocalypse Now, Strager Than Paradise, Reservoir Dogs...Rosemary's Baby

Case in point here... Look at how utterly horrible the remake of THE OMEN was!!!!! You just don't mess with a good thing. Leave the classics alone, there is a reason that they are CLASSICS, maybe because these movies were so well done that people still watch and enjoy them the way they are. Hey Dunes, while youa re at it why don't you just go and remake Gone with the wind or better yet, try and remake Star Wars. That made a ton of money and you should be able to pullin a couple million with a crapfest you will put out so who cares if you don't know what you are doing. Leave these films alone and make some new films not cashing in on the hard work of others and playing on the nostalgia that people have towards the classics.

That's IT!!! I can't believe these idiots and their need to remake things! "Rosemary's Baby" was exactly like the book, it was perfect...there aren't enough deaths and mayhem in the novel to make it attractive to todays audiences...it would flop....just leave it alone, Bay...don't make me come down there and slap some sense into you....remember "The Haunting"? This is a case where I wouldn't even check it out....I wouldn't spend a penny to see it...someone would have to invite me over to watch their rental of it...and still I don't think I'd be curious. All apologies to the artists that created the original...we love and admire you...don't worry...the public knows what's good...

they don't NEED to make remakes...they NEED to make movies...and since noone can write an ORIGINAL script worth a damn anymore, they have to rely on the remakes. If you're that sick of remakes, get off the internet and start writing a script, otherwise shut up and let the professionals continue to phone-in their careers and embarass themselves further.
believe me, i feel the same way about the state of the industry right now...but *****ing about the number of remakes on some internet message board? not only does it not accomplish anything, but there are PLENTY of bigger nerds than you that have already said it.
(for the record...this isn't directed at anyone in particular...just an observation)

The original is really freaky, I would like to see what they could to do to further freak the audience out in this more desensitised world.
Posted by: Marco on March 5, 2008 at 06:16:43
All your remakes, are belong to trash
Posted by: Carl Daigrepont on March 5, 2008 at 15:27:24
Hey, Sammy...
I AM working on THREE screenplays...all original...I've been working on them for a while now...you see, writing something original can take time...writing remakes...well, you can cut that time 70%...the only remake I would consider "writing" would be Richard Matheson's "Hell House"...the 1973 PG version just didn't cut it...
There are MANY writers such as myself out "there"...and yes, we are sick of the NEEDLESS remakes...the other people who are complaining are doing so because they (we) are consumers (audiences) and don't want "stale" product...plus it's just damn insulting to all of the original artists who are still alive that are made to feel that what they did wasn't good enough...so people are not just complaining for themselves...they're DEFENDING the people that created the originals.

In Defense of Remakes
Here's the economics of it:
Horror movies are cheap, so you really only need to make a few million dollars to break even. Now because they're cheap, you can't afford to pay A-level actors or use really exotic locations. The question is, how do you bring people to the theater if they're not there to see their favorite movie stars? Horror movies tend to do this in two ways: either they're more graphic / extreme than anything you've seen before (ie Hostel) or they're a continuation of a franchise (ie Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake).
lets run some numbers:
The Descent (probably the best original horror movie of the past few years) was released during the prime movie season, the summer, opened at around $9 million, and made about $26 million in the US
Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was released in October, made $18.5 million when it opened, and went on to make $40 million domestically.
in the producer's eyes (and they aren't stupid), updating a classic franchise is a much better idea than trying to start a new one. They know they're making crap movies, but they also know that if they make good, original movies, nobody will go to see them.
The solution: WE the audience have to go see the badass original movies and we have to drag our friends along. As soon as high quality horror movies become more profitable than ****ty remakes, we're going to start seeing a lot more of them in production.
on a side note: what do you think makes a good horror movie?
