He vied the new Spider-Man gig, and you can see him in an audition for the film if you head over to LatinoReview.com, alas, he did not get it, and so Josh Hutcherson (Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant) is moving on to Detention.

The film is a horror-comedy starring Dane Cook that concerns a group of teens in their final year of high school who must contend with a movie slasher who has come to life.

Joseph Kahn will direct from a script he penned with Mark Palermo. Kahn is a music video vet who has worked with Eminem, Blink 182, U2 and Garbage.

Oh, and he also directed Torque in 2004. Yee-haw.

Detention has a $10 million budget and begins shooting in L.A. next month.

Reminds me of that one episode of UK's Urban Gothic.

Dane Cook is as unfunny as the blue collar comedy guys. Guess you have to be a redneck to get these guys type of comedy. It's jokes I use to tell in the 3rd grade.

@txhsfball You don't need to be a redneck to get that type of comedy. You just need intelligence to get the "joke" or understand the humor.

Dane Cook? Yuck. Josh Hutcherson is a good actor. He was awesome in Cirque Du Freak.
