Dimension's Hellraiser Remake to Be 3-D

Source:Variety
October 27, 2009

The list of horror titles to be made in 3-D is growing. In the instance of this film, when its main villain utters, "We have such sights to show you," he means it.

Dimension Films is developing its Hellraiser remake as a 3-D project. That's right, it appears Bob Weinstein has his chin up and still wants to spearhead a redo of Clive Barker's '80s film which introduced audiences to Pinhead (portrayed by Doug Bradley). Many directors and writers have circled the franchise reboot, Pascal Laugier (Martyrs) being the last until he parted ways over creative differences.

Weinstein is also moving ahead on Halloween 3-D once director Patrick Lussier completes work on the Nicolas Cage film Drive Angry.

On the list of titles not being made in 3-D, you can add Scream 4. A number of outlets said it was going to be a 3-D sequel; screenwriter Kevin Williamson smashed those rumors, however.

WHAT? THEY BETTER GET DOUG BRADLEY AS PIN HEAD OR I WILL BE PISSED.

unless it turns out to be a movie that follows the book and in that case pinhead is by name never metioned so it will be fine with out him. but they will probably turn it into a crappy gore fest and not follow the book or the movie and suck. but i am open to the fact that it might be awsome.

but in 3D? wtf? what a cheap gimmic...

If Robert Englund is replaced, then Doug Bradley is a goner for sure....

Posted by: Ian on October 27, 2009 at 19:48:46

a cheap gimmick indeed. i'm just waiting for a few 3D movies to tank in a row, then it'll be gone for another decade or two. i kinda get the feeling all we'll bee seeing are chains flying at the screen for 90 min. glad to hear scream 4 won't be 3D...as that REALLY seemed pointless.

I mean i can understand people would be pissed its in 3D, i personally dont care, because I have the smarts to know I can watch it in 2D and still enjoy it. This will be the closest to the Hellraiser we all wanted, since Clive is nursing the movie.

hellraiser sucks anyway

Posted by: Wade L on October 27, 2009 at 20:33:58

Clive is not nursing this movie. They shot down his script because it was too much. Besides, Wes Craven nurses his remakes and they all sucked, so why would this be different?

They shouldn't remake Hellraiser. There are so many talented people in the horror genre today, they should let those people develop some ideas. This is bordering on ridiculous!

As with any reboot, I'm on the fence. Good work on the redesign for Pinhead on a makeup and sfx level but I'm not too fond of it as Pinhead himself. I'll go watch it with an open mind but I'm not expecting a whole bunch.

UGH /VOMIT... really ... how many utterly crapola hellraisers were there.... its going to be as ugly as .. dare I say it... J E H playing Freddy the K ... HE LOOKS SOOO BAD!!! /Flush... and i LOVED Hellraiser...

Making remakes for the sake of remakes and 3D movies. Because it's "what's hot."

I don't care what anyone says, everything is a ****in fad. If everyone thinks it's not becoming ridiculous then I don't know what I'm talking about.

Thank God, at least Scream 4 is not in 3D, but it's still not a guarantee is gonna be good.

I guess this 3D stuff is here to stay until it becomes a bad thing.

Weinstein I hope every movie you make tanks. You don't deserve to have the rights to make these movies. The saddest part about this crap is that there have been several good filmmakers involved with bringing some of these characters back to life, but this lard ass can't handle anything new or creative. We get Rob Zombie's trash Halloween franchise which will be followed by another hack making a garbage 3d sequel. Then we give Hellraiser the rape treatment. This guy needs to just get the hell out of the film business. He has no interest in making god films. All that matters is trying to eck out every penny he can. F-you weintein brothers. The film will be better the day you two are no longer involved.

This could actually turn out to be a good thing. Then again, this could turn out to be pure ****. Did anyone see the early concept of Pinhead? He looked like a crap-a$$ed Rustynail-head. I want to see what clive came up with. The great writers are just too much for pansy-a$$ed Hollywood.

Looking forward to this one. I know Hollywood has been overdoing it a bit with the 3-D, but I actually think this is one of the perfect movies to use that technology. I liked the early Pinhead concept art. It looked like a much more twisted character.

I'm looking forward to the remake and now I'm really excited to hear it is 3D. Everything is better in 3D!!! Here is my ideal cast:
Kirsty: Scarlet Johansson
Frank: Tim Roth
Julia: Rachel Griffiths (crazy girl from 6 Feet Under)
Larry: Jeff Daniels
Female Cenobite: Kristanna Loken (That's the chick from Terminator 3. I would expand the role and have her sit on a throne of corpses like she did in the book)
Pinhead: Samuel L. Jackson (I know this is thinking outside of the box, but nobody says "burn in hell" like Jackson. He can also be scary with his make-up off. I can't say this same for Doug Bradley. You can change his bio to say he was a genocidal African general instead of a British general).

too many interesting people left the project, there for my interest went with them.

3D not good.
look at this horrormoviefan123 What a stupid name a horror "fan" that do not like hellraiser.

The 3-D idea has squashed what little desire I had to entertain a Hellraiser remake. Die 3-D Die. 3-D is fine and dandy for stuff like the Pixar flicks but please keep it the heck away from our horror. And the Winestein's are really losing touch with the genre. Give us a freakin' break.

Posted by: Bernardo on March 3, 2010 at 14:56:10

I don't like the idea of this classic horror film. Hollywood had ruined the Freddy vs Jason, Friday the 13th, and New remake Nightmare of Elm Street. All they care is about money and ****ing up the horror films. I don't like the 3-D ****. It is getting really annoying to have them back on horror films.

Posted by: PriestAggressor on April 6, 2010 at 22:36:42

If Doug Bradley isn't going to play Pinhead, I will not see this movie. He, better than anyone else has been the one constant through the films.

Posted by: LadyS on June 16, 2010 at 08:13:25

I spoke with Doug Bradley last year and he said he had no interest in playing Pinhead in the remake. Im a huge fan of the Hellraiser films and I think it'll be interesting to see what they can do with it, although it will never be as good as the original.
