Whedon's Cabin in the Woods Pushed, Going 3-D!

MGM Studios has decided to push Joss Whedon's anticipated horror flick The Cabin in the Woods, directed and co-written by Cloverfield's Drew Goddard, back nearly a year, from its original release date of February 5, 2010 to the new date of January 14, 2011.

MGM reps tell ShockTillYouDrop.com the reason they're doing this is because the early response to the film has been phenomenal and they're going to spend six months or so converting the picture to 3-D.

There is nothing else scheduled for that 2011 date, which is the four-day weekend to celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr, although the fourth Underworld movie is currently scheduled to open one week later.

god, i'm SOOOOO f^ucking sick of everything (mostly horror movies & kid movies if you notice) going 3D!! GIVE IT A BREAK STUDIOS!!!!!
and so far i have zero excitement for this movie. maybe that will change when i see SOMETHING about it. the whole "secrecy" thing is making my interest grow.

oops, i meant "the whole "secrecy" thing IS NOT making my interest grow". LOL.

theyre pushing it back a whole year so it wont have to compete with the half dozen cabin/woods horror movies coming out in 2010.
i hope whedon is adding some zombies in it.

Sucks to have to wait so long for this but Shutter Island, Wolf Man and The Crazies are all scheduled for release this February so maybe CITW getting some space to itself would be good. Still, a whole year seems nuts.

shew...3D again and again.

well, i'm happy that some people enjoy 3D movies but I don't. It's just a fad.

3-D is no longer in the fad category. It's here to stay. Due to the lack of enough venues that can play 3-D, the number of 3-D films each year will stay relatively low for awhile but the format is gaining momentum and the future only holds more 3-D for us, not less.

What? Why? if it's so good just leave it how it is, i don't think the 3-D thing is going to help, maybe at the boxoffice but thats it. 3-D doesn't look good with horror films, you can't really get into the story as much, but in 2-D you can.

hopefully they change thier minds, but i doubt it

I too am sick of the 3D craze. Of course it'll swamp the market and then fade away (just like it did in the 60's and 80's). All it'll take is for two or three 3D movies to tank in a row and the studio's will start to worry. (if only PG-13 movies would tank more than R ones). For some movies it's a good idea, but some of the ones I hear coming out (a 3D texas chainsaw?!?!?!) are just retarded and jumping on the bandwagon. Plus, 3D movies look AWFUL on dvd. I'll take a horror movie with a good story over some silly gimmick any day.

I'm a huge fan of Whedon's, but I just give up on Cabin in the Woods. It shouldn't be this big of a pain in the ass to get a movie out. **** this 3D hype!

3D is actually pretty cool when done on a movie that deserves it. Final Destination 3D sucked so bad, but if this is a good movie, it may be worth the wait to see it in 3D.
