Platinum Dunes Remake & Original Project Updates

Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor

As far as 2009 is concerned, the fellas at Platinum Dunes are booked. A Nightmare on Elm Street is in production. They're hoping a sequel to Friday the 13th gets the greenlight so they can begin shooting later this year.

Looking ahead to 2010, anything goes. Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have a number of projects on the table - more original productions than remakes, believe it or not. We hit Fuller up for some status reports on a few titles. And if you've been following past Platinum Dunes updates, you'll see not much has changed regarding the films below.

The Birds: "We keep trying, but I don't know. It's so hard to get the script right. We continue to struggle," says Fuller citing the challenges of taking such a remake include working under the shadow of Alfred Hitchcock and the limitations of what the birds can do. "Birds peck and poke. So there's not a lot of variety. It's a much harder movie to do. As you know, we lay ourselves out there and get annihilated all day long online and that movie just opens us up to a different level of annihilation. That doesn't feel like it's next for us."

The Butcherhouse Chronicles: "We're close. It's an original script. This feels more in the wheelhouse of Friday the 13th : fun horror, kids running around, not too much torture or pulling people's nails or teeth out. Great villain. It feels pretty good. We don't make these movies by sending people to sets and have them make it for us, our limitation is the amount of time Drew and I can spend on set. This year is spoken for, fortunately, so hopefully this is a 2010 movie for us."

Rosemary's Baby: In short, it's not going to happen. Nothing new there, but it deserves repeating so you can breathe a sigh of relief. Luckily, the project gave way to another infernal idea penned by Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Scott Kosar. You can read more about it here.

More from Fuller and Form soon!

And they wonder why they get "annihilated" when they attempt a remake of Alfred Hitchcock? Friday the 13th is one thing, but trying to match Hitchcock is downright silly.

A remake of films like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm st don't matter because in the end, good or bad, it's still cool to see your favorite killer on the big screen doing what they do best. But trying to redo a classic is a bad idea. There a one time thing.

I usually don't care if a movie is remade (except for the Wolfman, gonna suck) but i think The Birds should not be remade, i can't explain why.

Neither should Nightmare on Elm Street.

Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street aren't classics? Since when? But with The Birds being stalled and Rosemary's Baby not happening, it seems that PD's trend of remakes are slowly coming to an end... Thank God.

On what basis do you feel Wolfman will suck? There was a leaked trailer...eh I dunno how long ago...and it looked outstanding. Nothing about the films leans toward it sucking.

Because Joe Johnston is a bad director, Benicio Del Toro is an over-hyped actor who plays the same charactor in every movie and, even though i'm a big fan, Rick Bakers make-up is uninspired. Everything i've seen or heard about this movie has made me know more and more this will be a big mistake. The only thing good about this movie is Anthony Hopkins. I have nothing against remakes, when i first heard about this i was excited but i'm not looking forward to this. The thing that sucks is that it opens on my birthday, maybe thats a sign i'll actually like it, who knows.

they shouldnt remake the birds because knowing them, they'll put sex in it which is just ridiculous....

What do you mean, knowing them they'll put sex in this? What movie have they remade besides Friday the 13th, in which sex is a staple, did they put sex in? Because as far as I know there wasn't any in either of the Texas Chainsaw remakes. Moron.

I for one don't think they should remake The Birds, not because it was a Hitchcock movie but for the same reason that he brought up in that they can't really bring anything new or different to the table...I mean - They're birds, what else are they going to do.

I didn't like the first Rosemary's Baby so I don't care what they do with that. Probably be just as boring.

I'm almost completely sure he was kidding.
